Claim Tax Exemption by Contributing to the Education of Vulnerable Children
Children are considered the future of society. But, if the future is grim or bright depends on the kind of society we've built for our children.
According to ILO and UNICEF, the number of children engaged in child labour worldwide has risen to 160 million, in the past four years. The Covid-19 pandemic has not only pushed millions of people into poverty but also forced their children to turn into breadwinners, making them victims of child trafficking, malnourishment, and exploitative working conditions.
One such child is Pranavi. Belonging to a village in Nuzvid, Andhra Pradesh, she was forced into child labour when her mother fell ill and her father sent her to the local moneylender to work in chilli fields, making her toil for a meagre amount of Rs 150 per day. Her younger brother Prashant also fell into the trap of bonded labour, at the age of 12, ending up working in his landlord's house in exploitative conditions. CASA has helped such children through financial support and the CASA Bridge Course.
CASA's Child Labour Free Zone (CLFZ) is a project that provides educational opportunities to children engaged in child labour, along with providing sustainable livelihood options to their families, in 23 villages of Tamil Nadu through four Bridge Course Centres (BCCs). The project has a multipronged approach to eradicating child labour.
Under the Child Labour Free Zone Project:
- Children engaged in child labour are first identified and rescued.
- Their families are counselled by CASA volunteers against the adverse psychological and physical impacts of child labour on the children.
- The volunteers convince the parents to send the children to CASA's Bridge Course Centres to fill the gap caused due to their dropping out of school, and to make their transition to the formal school system smoother.
- The families are provided monetary support (through the Income Generation Programme) to help them build their livelihoods.
- After the children are sent to formal schools, tracking and monitoring are done to ensure that there are no hiccups in their journey.
To continue providing equal learning opportunities to children of marginalised communities, CASA has started a campaign 'Umeed’. We request you to be a part of this initiative by becoming a donor.
A small contribution from you will help us continue our efforts for many such children like Pranavi and Prashant. The initiative will not only stop them from turning into a life of misery but also give them the hope of a better future!
