The hot summer sun blazed over the small village of Banswara, located in the rural part of Rajasthan, India. Little did the inhabitants know, something was about to change and bring hope to 1200 girls and women in the village.
The problem with Banswara, Rajasthan was that even though it was a thriving village, the women were unable to maintain basic hygiene during their menstrual cycles due to the lack of awareness and social stigma associated with it. That's where CASA comes in.
CASA has launched a new campaign called 'Care with CASA' that intends to uplift the lives of these 1,20,000 women in 23 different states of India, through the distribution of sanitary pads and menstrual kits, and offering sustainable cloth pad making training.
Throughout the following months, the women conducted several awareness drives and workshops, teaching not only about menstrual hygiene but also about safe sex practices and how to make sustainable cloth pads, while teaching the importance of maintaining basic hygiene. They started donating sanitary pads and menstrual kits to women who lacked the resources for them.
The Care with CASA campaign has already received an overwhelming response from people all over the world. Kind-hearted individuals have started donating generously to the campaign. The whole village of Banswara was in tears when they heard the news and was ecstatic to receive the menstrual kits that were distributed to them.
Today, CASA continues to strive for the betterment of rural women in India, thanks to their tireless efforts, generous donations, and strong support. Thanks to CASA's dedication and commitment to providing education to the underprivileged and tribal communities, Lakshmi's dreams of a better future, one filled with education, are not just a dream anymore, but a reality. Her story is a reminder that with education, we can overcome any obstacle and create a brighter future.
Anusha and Rama, two friends from Andhra Pradesh, were forced to drop out of school,after three years they were able to return to school through the CASA’s Bridge Course Centre and pursue their dreams of becoming a nurse and an English teacher respectively. Despite facing hardship and adversity, their friendship and courage serve as an inspiration to others.
Many young women in rural areas are denied access to quality education, leaving them unequipped without the basic skills they need to pursue a career. CASA is helping to provide vocational training such as embroidery, tailoring and fabric painting to youth who empower them with the skills they need to find employment and break out of the cycle of poverty. CASA is helping young women such as 18 years old Sarika, who has undergone exploitation as a cotton farm laborer at an early age to earn for the family. She believes CASA is a center of hope for daughters like her to learn the skills they need to gain true financial independence
Durgavati Devi, from a Dalit community in Deoria district, Uttar Pradesh, has been living in poverty since childhood and wanted to change this. Due to gender bias, women are often confined to household duties and lack awareness of their rights. With determination, she took the opportunity to challenge the situation and with support from CASA, she became a leader of the CBO and organized gender rallies to create awareness of rights. She established a Self-Help Group to increase her family's income and is now advocating for issues in the community at the district level.
Yasmin Sheikh, a mother and domestic helper from the Paithan District of Aurangabad, India, was inspired by the work of CASA, a community-based organization that supports vulnerable families and provides information on government schemes. After joining CASA, Yasmin began to volunteer and learn about the issues of her community, including the effects of patriarchy and systemic issues of caste, class, and gender. She became a leader in her community, advocating for the rights of women and minorities and creating awareness about the importance of education, healthcare, and nutrition. Yasmin's story is an inspiration and shows how education, awareness, and collective action can bring about positive social change.
CASA provides computer training to youths and school drop-outs who lack access to computers and internet, helping them gain valuable skills for the digital world. Sathish (21 years) learns basic computer applications, he hopes to find a dignified job and take care of his ailing mother without resorting to physical labor. Along with his classmates, Sathish is being taught critical computer and Internet skills that are in demand in today's academic and professional environments.
