ASSAM Needs You!

Incessant rain over the past week has disrupted lives in Northeast India. Heavy downpours, floods and landslides in Assam have devastated channels of commute such as roads and rail lines.

Brahmaputra, Kopili, Disang, Kushiyara and Barak rivers recorded dangerous levels of water flow that breached the embankments in several areas and flooded the nearby villages.

The worst-affected districts include Cachar, Dima Hasao, Hojai, Nagaon, Charaideo, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Bajali, Baksa, Biswanath and Lakhimpur.

The situation in the Dima Hasao is alarming as the rain continues to batter the hilly region, affecting the Lumding-Badarpur single line railway route, which connects Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and the southern part of Assam with the rest of the country.

As of now, over 40 lakh people are affected with severe damage to life and livelihood across the battered 31 districts of Assam. The state has reported the loss of lives too. Moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal accompanied by the low-level south-westerly winds is expected to cause deluge and thunderstorms at isolated places across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

We have a roadmap to urgently deliver the following to the flood impacted population in Assam based on their needs:

  • For those who lost their homes:
Shelter Kit containing tarpaulin, groundsheets, solar lanterns, smokeless stove and mosquito net.

  • For those who lost access to sanitation:
Emergency Hygiene Packet including chlorine tablets, soaps, ORS, sanitiser, toothbrushes, toothpaste, comb, buckets, and mugs.

  • For those lacking resources to nutrition:
Dry Ration Packets including rice, wheat, cooking oil, pulses and spices.

  • For the ones residing in water-contaminated areas:
Access to clean drinking water by installing Water Filters at community places.

  • For those who lost their only source of income:
Long-term recovery, rehabilitation, and livelihood support

Your contribution can help us to organise immediate relief provisions that would support the affected in these trying times.

Let's make an impact on the lives of flood victims.
