Health and Nutrition

At CASA, we are unwavering in our efforts to uplift the health and well-being of the underprivileged. We firmly believe that good health and nutrition are fundamental rights for every individual. We recognize the pressing need to attend to and support those who are already suffering and facing economic hardships, empowering them to overcome unhealthy outcomes.

Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), a debilitating parasitic disease transmitted by mosquitoes, poses a lifetime of repercussions for those affected. This infectious disease inflicts permanent or temporary disabilities, primarily impacting the lower portion of the body. The transmission occurs when mosquitos infect humans with roundworms, which then breed and attack the lymphatic system. Unfortunately, this crippling disease remains prevalent in tropical states of India, including Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and others.

CASA recognizes the urgent need to combat LF and is dedicated to providing extensive medical care and teaching Lymphedema management techniques to affected individuals. Since 2003, CASA has been making constant efforts towards the eradication of Lymphatic Filariasis in India, in accordance with the National Health Policy by adopting a comprehensive approach, we aim to alleviate the suffering caused by this disease and improve the quality of life for those affected.

CASA has been providing hygiene kits, and training sessions, and involving volunteers to help defeat this disease. Through door-to-door surveys, mass drug administration campaigns, CASA has trained over 55,205 LF patients in lymphedema management and distributed over 25,000 hygiene kits and 5,000 customized comfortable shoes to patients. Our efforts have also helped to raise awareness about LF in the community, with 92.5% of people understanding that it is caused by mosquito bites and not superstition. CASA's work has reached over 4,05,000 households in Odisha and West Bengal, making a significant impact in the fight against LF.
