Thousands without food, shelter, safe drinking water in Odisha; CASA’s response in worst flood affected regions

Incessant rainfall since 15th July, caused flash floods in river Nagabali and Kalyani of Rayagadha district of Odisha. More than 28,000 people in 70 villages affected.

The damage assessment report covered the cost of damage during floods in five southern districts of Rayagada, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur and Koraput which were severely affected due to heavy rain and floods in Nagavali, Kalyani, Indravati, Turi, Bhaskel, Bangeri, Hati and other river systems during 15 to 19 July, it said.

Flash floods has damaged houses, household materials and agricultural crops. Due to waterlogging, people are living on roadside as most of house are full of mud.

Food, Shelter and safe drinking water is immediate requirement.

To 1,800 families, we are providing:
a. Dry Rations (15kgs rice, 2kgs pulses, 1kg salt, 1lt refined oil, 200gms chilly powder, 200gms turmeric powder)
b. Household articles (clothing, blankets, utensil and other articles of daily use)
c. Temporary Shelter: Tarpaulins and plastic mats

 

The items have been chosen based on field recommendations, damages by the flood in the area and request from the communities.
