#COP22 Road To Morocco: Climate Justice is Gender Justice

ACT Alliance and CASA are emphasising the need to involve women leadership at local and international levels to fight for climate justice.

Speaking to ACT Alliance in Marrakech, CASA India representative Joycia Thorat said that “the solutions for climate justice are also with the women.”

“Climate change is a crucial issue and we need women leaders who will be included in every important issue and talking on behalf of everyone when these negotiations are going on,” she said.

“We see women leaders not only at the international level, but women at the community and at the grass root level are also providing great responsibility and great leadership in terms of bringing climate justice as an important issue,” Thorat said.

Over 20 countries, including Brazil and France, on November 16 became signatories to the framework agreement of the International Solar Alliance — an initiative that is the brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leading English daily reported.

Indian climate experts termed it as a “good” initiative which will aggregate demand, improve quality and reduce cost of solar energy in developing countries but cautioned that achieving these objectives will require countries to have “confidence” in International Solar Alliance (ISA), it said.

Another CASA India representative Dinesh Vyas told ACT Alliance, “This COP22 is a very important event especially after the Paris negotiations. But here, I would like to request the parties that they should take care of gender rights, women rights in each and every segment of the Morocco event. It’s not only about the adaption but with the point of view of mitigation, finance and other capacity building initiatives,” he said.
